But long live Burghill, Tillington & Weobley Cricket Club!

It is not long ago that Weobley Cricket Club had two teams, but in the last two seasons we have struggled to field even one team - indeed, we could not have done so without the help of the Burghill & Tillington Club who have lent us players. Last season Burghill & Tillington had three teams as well as a share of our team, but there were occasions when they too had insufficient players and played with only nine or ten players. We are becoming an increasingly sedentary nation and cricket clubs and other sports clubs the length and breadth of the land are suffering as a consequence.

Given the problems of last season, a meeting was held recently at which it was decided that Weobley CC and Burghill & Tillington CC should merge to form Burghill, Tillington & Weobley CC. Next season the club will field three teams: the first two teams will play in the Worcester League; the third team will play in the GB Liners Marches League and will play on Weobley High School's ground.

The 2016 season starts on Saturday 30th April with the Burghill, Tillington and Weobley 3rds playing at the High School ground. A fixture list for all three teams can be found under documents.

For many years Weobley CC has been kept afloat financially by those generous local businesses who have sponsored boundary banners and by those kind folk who have put their hand in their pockets and paid to be Vice Presidents. A very big thank you to you all! But the new club is still going to need your support, so you can expect to hear from me again next year.

I should also like to play tribute to Steve de Souza, the chairman of Burghill & Tillington CC, and to Derrick Jones, Vice Chair of the GB Liners Marches League, without whose help and co-operation the merger would not have been possible.

As far as Weobley is concerned, what's important about the merger is that those cricketers who have kept the game alive in the village for the past few years will be able to continue playing in Weobley and for a side that will continue to carry the Weobley name.
