The Play Area is located on the Gadbridge Road next to the Village Hall. Visitors may use the Hall car park when bringing their children to the Play Area.
The Parish Council are pleased to report that Herefordshire Council awarded Weobley a Community Grant, to the value of £2000, to assist with the provision of a shelter for the Play Area at Hopelands.
For some time it had become obvious that both the youth and visiting parents (and Grandparents!) would benefit from the provision of a suitable weather shelter. We have some funds left over from the new play equipmemt and those, plus the grant and also a generous donation from the proceeds of the annual firework display, now allow us to provide a facility.
We have decided to build a shelter that looks like a market hall, replicating the structure that was in the centre of the village years ago. This style is much more in keeping with the rural location, rather than try to buy a modern "youth shelter", which would not be acceptable to all of the village. The building has been provided through the generosity of Oakwrights, a firm specialising in timber-framed buildings, who provided the building at cost and you can now see and enjoy, the completed Shelter.
We are very grateful for all the help received so far. John Hurds cut all the hedges along the new permissive path, and "volunteers" Roger Grout, Kevin Hurds, Hywell Pritchard, Bob Reacord and Percy Layton spent a busy morning trimming the south hedge and preparing all six foundations for the shelter. Not to forget our favourite roofer, Paul Fitzgerald, who did much to make the shelter waterproof. Most of all we wish to thank Andrew Parsons from the Old School Shop who has given so many hours and so much energy to the project. Without him and his helpers, the play area would not be the success it is. Thank you Andrew.
We have also had a pleasing response to the appeal for paving slabs, which has provided a suitable surface for the shelter. It is great to know that so many people are willing to help this village project.
We would like to thank Oakwrights for their generosity in providing the building at cost and for the donation from Mike Ware from the Firework Fund.
Now that the primary objectives of the play area have been achieved it will not surprise you to learn to we still need help in maintaining the area and providing reports to the Parish Council, so if you would like to help, please get in touch with Chris Breen on 312143.
